Uber wants drivers and delivery workers to get priority access to COVID-19 vaccine

Given how reliant many people have become on rideshare moves and especially delivery works during the pandemic, Uber is pushing for them to get priority access to the COVID-1 9 inoculation. Today, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi sent a letter to all 50 governors asking them to prioritize passing drivers and bringing employees the inoculation as essential workers.

” Over the last nine months, these workers have been a lifeline to their communities ,” Khosrowshahi wrote in the note.” They have ferried healthcare workers to infirmaries, handed menu to beings socially distancing at home, and cured local diners stay in business .”

Khosrowshahi’s letter to governors is an addition to the one Uber sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that proposed for the inclusion of non-health essential workers in the priority phase of dissemination for the vaccine.

Uber’s advocating on behalf of the members of laborers comes amid an ongoing battle around how to group rideshare drivers and transmission employees. Uber has long argued that its workers are not employees, while numerous gig workers have argued then there misclassified as independent contractors and should be entitled to the many labor claims that come with public service employees classification.
