Humans are more rivalrist than we like to believe. So much so, that it’s our human nature to tend towards rivalries and rivalry. We’ve seen it since the beginning of time, as almost every religious culture has ancient tales of sibling strifes. This is because, as humen, we take delight in seeing someone else fail. This is something we should be hyper-aware of because according to Luke Burgis, envy always leads towards misery.
Look at it from this point of view – if nobody is required the things in living you craved, would you question if that thing is truly advantageous? This can straddle from dating and business, to even the meat we ordering at a diner. The strange whodunit of inclination is that we look to other humans to figure out what it is that we want, and we adopt another’s lusts as our own. This starts troubles when we are all vying towards having the same thing.
These shared libidoes and outcomes then conduct us towards a dearth mindset, and we look to those who desire what we do and goal them as a competitor or race. More often than not, this induces us down a footpath towards jealousy and gloom. But not all antagonisms are bad. We picture healthy race in boasts and business all the time, such as Enzo Ferrari and Ferruccio Lamborghini to Larry Bird and Magic Johnson.
