Intel’s RealSense Finds A New Lease On Life As A Facial Recognition System

Intel debuted its RealSense depth-sensing technology several years ago where it obligated its practice onto designs like laptops. Thanks to the use of an infrared camera and infrared laser projectors, RealSense is capable of depth-sensing to determine the distance between objects and helping to separate the foreground from the background.

In a course, you were able to almost think of RealSense as Intel’s answer to Microsoft’s Kinect, where users could use it to perform gesticulates in activities and more. Now it seems that Intel has procured yet another use for RealSense, and this time in the form of facial acknowledgment where the company is calling it RealSense ID.

This is a new way of using RealSense where its depth sensor, which is paired with a specialized neural network, will help authenticate users by recognizing their faces. Intel visualizes that the technology can be used with all kinds of devices, such as smart fastenings, ATMs, point-of-sale plans, and more.

That being said, we’re not sure when we can expect to see RealSense ID make its way into the real world. The corporation has not mentioned how or where it might be used, so it could be a while before we see it debut in the real world. The firm has also reassured that RealSense ID was developed with privacy in imagination, and that all data is handled locally and is also encrypted.
